In times like these, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. For those who already suffer from anxiety, these fears can be almost debilitating. It’s true that we are living through a global pandemic of epic proportions…Wow…a GLOBAL FREAKING PANDEMIC…who would have thought that this would ever be something we’d face in this lifetime, yet here we are. So what next? We can choose to allow the headlines to force us deeper into a dark hole or we can recognize that FEAR is truly our enemy. Now let me be clear, fear is an acceptable emotion that we all experience. However, we cannot allow fear to rule our actions.
Instead, we MUST choose to face our fear, connect with our faith and get in the fight. We all have something we can do to help. We MUST pray for God’s continued protection for those who are on the front lines; doctors, nurses, first-responders, store clerks, military etc. But we can also reach out to those who might be struggling with fear and anxiety and speak an encouraging word. We can give food, clothes, household supplies to those who have lost their businesses and jobs. We can simply show compassion and empathy for those who are sick or who may have lost a loved one.
Being stuck in our homes may make us feel powerless, but we’re not! We are alive, full of purpose and able to do so much to help others during this time.
My encouragement for you is to recognize that FEAR IS MY ENEMY! Don’t run and hide during this time, rather, let your light shine brighter than ever. You are important. Love is necessary and we all have something to give.
